Implemented Zabbix and SNMP for network monitoring, and built OpenVPN and Proxmox setups for virtualization and secure remote access.

01. OVERVIEW

This project showcases the design and automation of a production-style home lab environment integrating Zabbix for monitoring, SNMP for device telemetry, OpenVPN for secure remote access, and Proxmox VE for virtualization. The goal was to build a scalable, secure, and reliable environment for continuous learning and testing.

02. METHODOLOGY

  • Zabbix Monitoring: Deployed Zabbix Server and Agents, created dashboards, and configured alerting for system and network metrics.
  • SNMP Telemetry: Enabled SNMPv2/v3 on routers, switches, and Linux hosts to collect interface, uptime, and device health data.
  • OpenVPN Access: Built a hardened OpenVPN server with certificate-based authentication for encrypted remote connectivity.
  • Proxmox Virtualization: Configured Proxmox VE with storage pools, VLANs, and automated VM provisioning for lab workloads.
